At first speaking event in 5 years, Kevin Spacey to receive lifetime achievement award
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Kevin Spacey, the actor who portrayed President John F. Kennedy during the Kennedy/Johnson era in films such as “An Officer and a Gentleman,” will receive his lifetime achievement award at the upcoming Golden Globe ceremony.
Spacey, 60, will join fellow Oscar winners Billy Crystal (“The Family Stone,” “Mean Girls”), Mel Gibson (“The Passion of the Christ,” “ Gibson ”), Whoopi Goldberg (“Moonlight”), Morgan Freeman (“Falling Up”) and Charlize Theron (“Monster,” “Monster,” “Monster,” “Monster,” “Monster”) at the 19th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony that will be held on the eve of the Academy Awards on February 24.

“Kevin is a great actor who has been working on and off in film for many years and whose work has given us many films to choose from,” the Academy President, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, said in an official statement. “His commitment to the art of acting and his openness to the diversity of acting genres are a great inspiration to us all. We are all thankful for Kevin’s great work and we look forward to celebrating his achievements with both his family and the many fans and colleagues who love him as much as we do.”
The Golden Globe Awards will be televised by ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Spacey portrayed Kennedy’s love, Carolyn Burdensky (played by Kathleen Turner), in the 1976 film “An Officer and a Gentleman,” which went on to win five Oscars, including one for Best Picture, while also bringing in $24.2 million at the box office.
