Omicron variant of COVID-19 confirmed in Halton and Durham regions cases, both in close contact with each other and with other cases in Halton Region
The first confirmed case of the virus (COVID-19) in Durham Region, a Halton Regional District patient admitted to the hospital on Monday, April 21, 2020, after a weekend visit to Toronto, was identified as an omicron variant. Dr. Matthew Gormick, medical officer of health, stated that Durham Regional and Peel Health had been notified that a novel coronavirus had been confirmed in contact with an omicron variant patient, from whom Durham Region had been notified that Durham Regional had an omicron variant patient, and who was the spouse of a Durham Regional patient. The patient in Durham Region is isolated in a special isolation room.
This is the second confirmed case of the virus (COVID-19) in Durham Region, with a patient admitted to hospital (Monday, April 21, 2020, at 6:30 p.m.) after a weekend visit to Toronto. A Halton Regional District patient was admitted on Wednesday, April 17, 2020, after a weekend visit to Halifax. The patient is isolated in a special isolation room.
The omicron variant of COVID-19 has been identified in two Halton Regional District (HRD) cases, all in close contact with each other, with two HRD cases in close contact with two HRD cases, and one HRD case with another HRD case. Both Halton Regional District cases are in need of further testing.
